16 Horsepower returns to Europe after 21 years.

16 Horsepower is known as the band that fundamentally changed the landscape of roots-leaning, alternative music, by leaning heavily on the raw intensity of Appalachian folk, bluegrass, gospel, and country. They employed traditional instruments like the banjo, Chemnitzer concertina, hurdy-gurdy, lap steel, and double bass (and then sifted these sounds through a modern, rock-inspired sound). This cross-pollination pioneered a genre-defying style variously called "gothic country," "gothic Americana," and, within Denver's fertile alternative scene of the 1990s, "The Denver Sound."

With a core trio of David Eugene Edwards, Jean Yves Tola, and Pascal Humbert at the helm, a rotating cast of collaborators, and an inexhaustible drive to push boundaries, they left an unmistakable sonic and thematic footprint. Whether it's fiery sermons, haunting ballads, or folk standards reinterpreted through a modern, haunted lens, 16 Horsepower has built a body of work that is both intimately American and universally gothic in its vision.

Their legacy continues in 2026 with the announcement of their European reunion, where the core trio of musicians will reunite for the first time since November 22, 2005, to present their beloved music once again.
