BELLE CHEN
mastery of the classical, with modern innovation
Saturday 28 March 2026

Notes fall like raindrops, the tempo accelerates while the clouds gather. The piano melody bursts and ripples through the electronic soundscape; the trees grow denser, the journey becomes deeper. Belle Chen's album Ravel In The Forest, released on the Platoon label, leads the listener through primeval forests, silent clearings and tropical canopies. We are accompanied by birds, a chameleon, a dragonfly – the wonder of nature is infused in this imaginary world.

Ambitus neo-classical

After receiving a standing ovation at her debut at the EFG London Jazz Festival in 2024, Belle is praised as an artist who is “original and provocative” and “feels like a discovery” (Brian Eno). The artist, nominated for the Australian Music Prize, reached 7th place on the British Official Chart (Specialist Classical) and 15th place on the Australian ARIA Chart (Classical) with her latest album.

During her live performances Belle applies a quirky but tender approach to musical storytelling. With the unmistakable influences of Maurice Ravel, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Joe Hisaishi’s melodic softness, Belle weaves experimental synthesizer sounds, classical virtuosity and free flowing improvisations that feel at home in both the jazz world and experimental music.

This is a solo performance not to be missed, with Belle playing tracks from her Ravel In The Forest album and new material.
