Benjamin Herman Trio ft. BIGYUKI
Album presentation: The Tokyo Sessions.
Performers: BIGYUKI (piano); Benjamin Herman (saxophone); Thomas Pol (bass); Jimmi Jo Hueting (drummer).
Saxophonist Benjamin Herman is one of the most productive and versatile Dutch jazz musicians. With his characteristic thick sound and percussive playing, rooted in bebop but infused with free jazz and rock ’n roll, he inspired many young saxophonists. From his legendary New Cool Collective to intimate trio work: Herman moves effortlessly between danceable soul jazz and avant-garde experiments. With more than fifty albums to his name and collaborations with artists such as Paul Weller, Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink, this acclaimed musician continues to push boundaries. This performance is in support of his new album The Tokyo Sessions, which was recorded in the Japanese capital. Special guest in Herman’s trio is the Japanese keyboardist BIGYUKI, known for his futuristic crossover of jazz, hiphop, soul and electronica.
