Cabaret Voltaire is one of the pioneers of the British electronic avant-garde. What began in 1975 as an experimental performance featuring tape manipulation, noise, machines, and Dadaist interventions evolved into a project that has profoundly influenced industrial music, post-punk, and countless electronic movements.
In 2026, Stephen "Mal" Mallinder and Chris Watson will return to the stage to celebrate 50 years of Cabaret Voltaire live, half a century after its debut at the Sheffield Students' Union. Fifty years later, their work still resonates with urgency in a world of social unrest and political turmoil.
The anniversary shows will trace their oeuvre: from early experiments and Rough Trade/Factory releases to Doublevision video art and collaborations with Adrian Sherwood and Marshall Jefferson. Mallinder emphasizes: "The live set is built from scratch but faithful to the original tracks."
Watson adds: "To honor Cabaret Voltaire's legacy is a unique privilege." A chance to relive one of electronica's most visual acts.
