Cloth

Cloth is the project of the Scottish twins Rachael and Paul Swinton from Glasgow. Since 2016 the duo has made restrained, atmospheric music that balances between dream pop, indie and post-rock. With whisper-soft vocals, minimal guitars and much attention to space and silence they create songs that come in slowly and hit emotionally deep. Their debut album Cloth (2019) quickly earned praise, followed by further recognition with Secret Measure (2023), which was nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year Award. Cloth is known for a subtle but distinctive sound that is increasingly deepened, without losing its intimacy.

The new album Pink Silence, now released via Rock Action, shows Cloth at their most layered and accessible. Under the direction of producer Ali Chant their music got a richer palette, with soft synths, strings and textures that reinforce the characteristic guitar lines. Contributions from among others Adrian Utley, Owen Pallett and Stuart Braithwaite give extra color to songs that slowly unfold and continue to resonate. Pink Silence feels like a natural next step: refined, emotional and with a cautious pop feeling that further underlines the quiet power of Cloth.
