Free Heri Heri For All x Makandra
On July 1, we gather at Tolhuistuin for Keti Koti: a day to commemorate, celebrate, and look forward to the history of slavery and the abolition of slavery.
Together with KIP Republic, we are giving away the first 150 free Heri Heri meals. Stop by, pick up your meal, and be sure to hang out in the Garden for an evening full of meeting people, music, dance, and togetherness, in collaboration with Solid Ground Movement.
Heri Heri is a traditional Afro-Surinamese dish with cassava, sweet potato, green and yellow plantains, salted fish, and egg. The dish originated from the resilience and creativity of enslaved people and carries rich cultural and historical significance today: a story of survival, remembrance, and passing on.
This year, Free Heri Heri For All aligns with the theme Heirlooms: what do you pass on, and what do you leave behind?
