Ghinzu
Brussels rock icons are back after 16 years
TivoliVredenburg and De Helling present: Ghinzu, one of Belgium's hottest rock bands. Or, in the words of Humo: "Brussels' hippest, hottest, and loudest export."
Along with other Flemish giants like dEUS and Soulwax, Ghinzu broke through in the early 2000s. With their experimental, clever, hard-hitting alt-rock and ominous piano riffs, Ghinzu put their hometown on the map. Only to disappear again after three albums. They gave a thrilling performance at De Helling just in time, but after that, it was truly the end for the quintet.
Now, 16 years later, Ghinzu is back with a new album. "How was the waiting?" the band teases in their Spotify bio. We certainly had to wait a long time, but the result makes up for everything. On album number four, Ghinzu goes back to basics. Back to the influences that shaped them as a band: the idiosyncrasy and expressiveness of Queen, and the unadulterated noise of bands like Nirvana and The Melvins.
Finally. The wait is over. John Stargasm and his crew are back. Hipper, hotter, and louder than ever. And that naturally calls for a return to—yes, De Helling! A full-circle moment, where these Belrock icons show they've still got it.
