Since 2007, trumpeter and singer Alexander Abreu has been at the forefront of Cuban music. With his sixteen-member collective Havana D'Primera, he has elevated the blueprint of Timba—the modern, high-energy Cuban evolution of salsa—to an unprecedented level.

Timba distinguishes itself through a complex fusion of jazz, funk, and deep Afro-Cuban rhythms, driven by an irresistible tumbao (groove). Abreu, praised for his technical mastery and characteristic, raw voice, is unparalleled in his ability to blend intellectual musicality with the raw energy of the streets. With a trophy cabinet full of Cubadisco Grand Prizes and Latin Grammy nominations for albums like 'Pasaporte' and 'Cantor del Pueblo,' the band continues to set the standard.
