HUMBE
The Mexican singer-songwriter and producer HUMBE creates emotional, diary-like pop in which Latin-American melodies merge with R&B influences. His songs unfold into sentimental songs about love, doubt and self-exploration, carried by soulful melodies and a contemporary (self-produced) sound. Something to be expected from a young musician who taught himself piano, guitar and drums. After early projects such as Sonámbulo (2017) and Entropía (2020), HUMBE broke through with later work, heard on albums such as Aurora and Esencia, where his introspection fully blossomed. In 2021 this earned him a nomination for a Latin GRAMMY as Best New Artist.
He now works completely independently via his own label and has built an international fanbase. His new double album 'DUEÑO DEL CIELO' shows a big step forward: a cinematic record on which he experiments with broader arrangements and new rhythms, without losing any form of vulnerability. For this album the self-taught artist went with his regular collaborators to the Icelandic countryside. With few distractions: a remote house, recording equipment, a fridge full of beer and daily trips to a café for chicken nuggets. A record was created that feels grand and filmic. Influences from artists such as Beyoncé, Daniel Caesar, Frank Ocean and Sampha resonate subtly in his work, while he takes his own place within contemporary alternative pop.
