Lacuna Showcase

India Raised, Utrecht-based electro virtuoso presents “Saz-e-yaad”

An instrument of memory. That is the closest translation of Saz-e-yaad , the new project by Lacuna aka Mihir Raina. In his live performance, Lacuna unites electronic soundscapes with Kashmiri music. Shaped by political fault lines, divided by migration, and sustained through retellings, eyewitness accounts, and shaky recordings.

The India-raised, Utrecht-based producer, composer, and sound researcher works with sound system-driven club music, experimental electronics, and archive-oriented sound research. This unique approach earned him a residency in the Open Culture Tech 2.0 program.

During his residency, Lacuna built a custom VST plug-in, trained on rare recordings of Kashmiri folk and classical music from the 80s and 90s. With this, compositions of rhythms, vocals, and musical textures come back to life using generative AI and sampling.

The result is a hypnotic, bass-driven experiment that is palpable in every fiber. With a wall of noise, rhythmic experiments, and sonic narratives, his sets navigate between intensities and emotions.

Come experience it on May 30. Visitors to Tentacles may attend this show for free.
