The Peruvian band Los Mirlos is a pioneer of psychedelic cumbia, the genre in which traditional Latin American rhythms are mixed with electric guitars, echo effects, and surf rock. Los Mirlos has existed since 1973 and has undergone many lineup changes, but founders Jorge Rodríguez Grández (vocals) and Danny Fardy Johnston (guitar) are still at the helm. With their timeless sound, Los Mirlos continues to influence bands such as YĪN YĪN, Khruangbin, and LA LOM. Speaking of which: Los Mirlos' new single Luchando (2026) is a collaboration with LA LOM!
