Indie-rock

Matt Berninger is the lead singer and lyricist of the Grammy-winning band The National . His sharp wit, compelling lyrics, and captivating melodies have made him one of the most recognizable voices in indie rock. The band has released ten studio albums, including First Two Pages of Frankenstein and Laugh Track (2023), and their debut live album, Rome , was released in late 2024. Besides The National, Berninger is also working on solo projects: his debut album, Serpentine Prison, was released in 2020, and its follow-up, Get Sunk, was released in May 2025 .

Get Sunk is an intimate yet grandiose work created with Grammy-winning Sean O'Brien, who not only produced but also co-wrote many of the tracks. The album exudes a rich, layered sound and features lyrics that capture the human experience with both melancholy and sharpness. Berninger was assisted by a close circle of musical friends, including Meg Duffy (Hand Habits), Julia Laws (Ronboy), Kyle Resnick (The National, Beirut), Booker T. Jones, and members of The Walkmen. In a basement studio in Silverlake, California, the music blossomed into a warm and multifaceted whole that feels both expansive and personal. During this Intimate Trio Performance, Berninger strips his new work back to its core: intense, vulnerable, and closer than ever.
