NEWBIES is an evening for emerging musical talent at Cinetol. Following an overwhelming number of applications, four new acts have been selected who will soon perform their music live on stage. During NEWBIES, they get the chance to share their sound with the audience, gain experience on a real stage, and take their first step towards the music industry. The first edition was a huge success, with a completely sold-out venue. Now it is time for a new batch of bands!
(Circle Circle)
In the alternative, sometimes even experimental indie and post-punk of (Circle Circle), heaviness, lightheartedness, peculiarity, and cynicism constantly alternate. Just when you get a grip on what is going on, the course is completely changed again. The lyrics have a comedic approach, infused with social commentary. The live show is dynamic and energetic. (Circle Circle) was formed in 2023 in the rehearsal rooms of dB's in Utrecht and consists of Filip Ferenc (guitar, vocals), Filipe Coutinho (drums), and Dirk Wolters (bass).
My Girl Loves Heroine
My Girl Loves Heroine is an energetic garage punk/acid rock trio from Rotterdam, inspired by bands like The Stooges, MC5, Dead Moon, and The Cramps. Their live shows are fast, chaotic, and physically intense, with the emphasis more on raw energy than on technical perfection.
Apocalypstick
Apocalypstick is a duo formed by Norah Jane and Minnie Madimin. Both are self-taught multi-instrumentalists and vocalists from Amsterdam who together create a bluesy psychedelic folk sound.
Inspired by Western and cult cinema, and influenced by country, blues, folk, and rock music from the 1940s to the 1970s. In their music and visuals, they enjoy playing with a cinematic approach while exploring themes they face in the modern world. They combine music, poetry, philosophy, and storytelling to turn their lives into a work of art.
…and to escape a world on the verge of exploding. Smearing a little lipstick on the apocalypse to make it bearable.
filmm
filmm! is a three-piece band that emerged from a series of spontaneous jam sessions without a plan or agenda, where each band member brought influences from all corners. United by a shared goal: to deliver a live set full of surprising and perhaps impossible-to-cover moments.
They intertwine agile math-rock riffs with solid hardcore bass and drums — fragile yet powerful, chaotic and catchy. They are currently working on their first EP, which desperately needs to be tested live.
