a night for new bands on the block

NEWBIES is an evening for emerging musical talent at Cinetol. After an overwhelming number of applications, four new acts have been selected to perform live on stage. During NEWBIES, they'll have the opportunity to share their sound with an audience, gain experience on a live stage, and take their first steps into the music industry.


‍Het Betekenis is a Dutch duo with an art-pop project full of dreamy sounds and danceable beats—music to move to without hesitation. Their first single will be released in January, followed by a fully DIY-recorded and produced album in March. With these releases under their belt, they're ready to share their sound live.


Zazie's Walking Home consists of five musicians who translate daily struggles into playful indie pop. They create a homey atmosphere, perform in bathrobes, and actively seek intimacy with the audience. They are currently working on their second EP, which combines mystical poetry with catchy melodies.


MESH is a young alt-rock band from Haarlem. Their music incorporates influences from shoegaze and dream pop, sounding both nostalgic and fresh. With a layered sound and a young, energetic vibe, they deliver a recognizable yet contemporary live experience.


GOODNIGHT MARS straddles the intersection of post-punk, indie pop, and noise rock. Their music addresses weighty themes surrounding social, economic, and ecological crises, while still allowing for humor and nuance. Expect sharp lyrics, raw energy, and intense live shows brimming with sincerity.
