The Syrian singer, Omar Souleyman, who collaborated with Gorillaz on their most recent album 'The Mountain', with Björk and Four Tet, began his career as a prolific wedding singer and released nearly 500 live cassettes before the civil war in his homeland Syria broke out in 2011. In 2013, his debut studio album Wenu Wenu, produced by Four Tet, was released. His second album Bahdeni Nami from 2015 received much critical acclaim, as did his three releases on Mad Decent: To Syria, With Love (2017), SHLON (2019), and ERBIL (2022). This firmly established Omar in the canon of global electronic music.
Souleyman has strengthened his growing status as an icon in the world and electronic music world by building a large international following after extensively touring and performing at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Pitchfork Paris, and Roskilde. In 2013, he performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Norway.
