Since his time in New York, Ben van Gelder has undoubtedly grown to be one of the leading jazz saxophonists in the Netherlands. His groundbreaking albums Manifold (2023) and This Is Water (2024) confirm him as a true innovator on the alto saxophone. The second established jazz name in this formation is Clemens van der Feen, an exceptionally gifted bassist, as well as a keyboardist and vocalist in his own band Zebulon. He has performed with artists such as Fred Hersch and Brad Mehldau.
To connect with a younger generation, these two Dutch jazz heavyweights have, at On The Roof's request, formed a trio with the young creator Ella Zirina. The Latvian guitarist, who only recently graduated cum laude in Amsterdam, is already teaching at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and has performed with greats including Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joey Baron, Tineke Postma, Pablo Held and Yuri Honing. With her own trio, she has released two albums and performed at North Sea Jazz 2024.
For this concert, these three outstanding instrumentalists will present jazz of the highest level, improvising right on the edge.

Ben van Gelder – saxophone
Clemens van der Feen – double bass
