This cheerful and highly talented trio, like On The Roof itself, originated in the Muziekstraat, where their Bengali tabla player Niti Ranjan Biswas once lived. Guitarist Mark Tuinstra is also deeply rooted in Noord through his work at the Roze Tanker. Oene van Geel has appeared on our roof in various formations: Zapp4, Estafest, and last year with Nawras Altaky’s Arise!, and has received several prestigious awards, including the Boy Edgar Prize and the Deloitte Jazz Award.

Together, The Nordanians fuse traditional ragas, vibrant funk and delicate chamber music into a virtuosic blend of cultures and influences, connecting with their neighborhood and the city. No band embodies On The Roof’s connection to Amsterdam Noord better than The Nordanians!
