Open Mike Eagle
The Los Angeles-based rapper, comedian and podcaster Open Mike Eagle is known for his clever, literate style of hip hop, which he himself calls 'art rap'. He draws inspiration from everything from Freestyle Fellowship and De La Soul to They Might Be Giants and Pavement. Also in the comedy world he is a familiar voice: he hosted podcasts such as 'Secret Skin' and 'Conversation Parade' and is co-host of the Comedy Central series 'The New Negroes'. His work moves on the intersection of rap, storytelling and theater and invites listeners to give their own meaning to his stories.
From his early years with the influential Project Blowed collective to his work with Thirsty Fish and Swim Team he built a reputation as a creative jack-of-all-trades. Where earlier solo albums, from 'Unapologetic Art Rap' to 'Anime, Trauma and Divorce', combine humor and personal insights, his latest project 'Neighborhood Gods Unlimited' goes deeper into trauma, self-discovery and surrealism. With flashbacks, a climax and even commercials the album invites you to interpret the meaning behind the album itself.
