Pieces of Tomorrow - Janácek String Quartet

Pop meets classical: masterpieces, visuals and light show

Pop and classical melt together in Pieces of Tomorrow: classical in a new jacket. In just over an hour you hear fragments from masterpieces that you must once have heard live. Bring your drink into the hall, let visuals and light enhance the music and enjoy the pure sound of piano and violin. Host DJ St. Paul talks with the musicians and reveals the stories behind the notes. Let yourself be overwhelmed in this intimate chamber music edition of Pieces by the music!

About Janácek's String Quartet
Janáček's first string quartet has the subtitle Kreutzer Sonata. The music is like an intense arthouse film or binge-worthy miniseries: love that turns into obsession, intimacy that shifts into suffocating control. They are brusque scenes, sometimes hysterical, then touchingly tender; whispering close-ups, sudden emotional jump scares. Janáček does not aim to please, but to touch. The title refers to Tolstoy's infamous book of the same name, but also to Beethoven's iconic Kreutzer Sonata. In these Pieces you therefore also hear two movements from Beethoven's sonata: music that once stood for revolutionary passion, and here functions as the spark that ignites Janáček's explosion. As if Beethoven made the trailer, and Janáček the series.

Afterparty
After the concert the party continues until midnight. The bar is open, St. Paul provides danceable tunes and the musicians mingle with the audience for a chat.
