The Saharan rock band Tamikrest was formed in 2006 in Tinzawatene by Ousmane Ag Mossa and Cheikh Ag Tiglia. Inspired by the band Tinariwen, they wanted to give voice to the Kel Tamasheq people. With their blend of psychedelic rock and traditional Tuareg sounds, they developed their own unique sound. Their third album, "Chatma," dedicated to the women of the Sahara, is considered a seminal album in Ishumar music and won a Songlines Award for Best Album in 2013. Tamikrest has since become an established name in the African rock scene.
