Tei Shi is the musical alter ego of Valerie Teicher Barbosa: singer, songwriter, and producer who navigates between Bogotá, Vancouver, and New York. Raised in a continuous interplay of cultures and languages, she develops a sound as boundless as her background. Since her first EPs, she made a name as a singer with a fluid, crystal-clear voice and an unmistakable direction. With the hypnotic 'Bassically,' she broke through worldwide, after which her debut album Crawl Space (2017) firmly put her on the map of the alternative pop scene. Tei Shi's music is a game of intimacy and expansion: ethereal vocals move through layers of shimmering synths, pulsating basslines, and rhythmic experiments. It's pop that sounds as seductive as it is elusive—sensitive and powerful, light-footed but deeply rooted in emotion. Collaborations with the likes of Blood Orange brought her to stages like Coachella, while her second album La Linda (2019) and the subsequent EP Die 4 Ur Love (2020) only strengthened her reputation as a trailblazer. In 2024, her third album Valerie appeared, and this year she heralds a new chapter with Make believe I make believe. The first singles show an artist who keeps reinventing herself, stays true to her intuition, and simultaneously gives pop music an idiosyncratic new face. Tei Shi is dreamy and direct, cosmopolitan and intimate—a unique voice that comes to life even more intensely live.
