The Indien is the project centered around Rianne Walther. While The Indien plays with influences from the past, its core creates vibrant pop songs with a unique slant. Tracks are built around Rianne's distinctive voice, often featuring stripped-down percussion, cinematic layers, and guitar melodies. "The foundation is always pop music, although it does lean a bit towards the alternative side," says Rianne.
With sold-out club shows across the country, festival appearances at venues like Best Kept Secret, Concert At SEA, and Dauwpop, and support for acts like DI-RECT at De Kuip, they've firmly established themselves. In March 2025, they even sold out the Grote Zaal at Paard with an audience of 1,100. A year earlier, in March 2024, the band released their long-awaited debut album, which has since racked up 7.5 million streams. The album was nominated for Best Album at the 3FM Awards and also earned The Indien an Edison nomination in the Alternative category.
In October 2025, the surprise single "How Am I Gonna Love Myself" was released, a duet with DI-RECT frontman Marcel Veenendaal. With this, the Hague-based band kicked off a new phase, which will continue in 2026 with the release of their second album. The new highlight is a scheduled headline show in the Main Hall of Paradiso in April 2026.
