A double bill that is almost too good to be true. The angry The Queers and the long-awaited return of the kings of queercore, Pansy Division, on one night!!
THE ONLY DUTCH CLUB SHOW of both bands!!
The story of The Queers is a great one. While many punk rock bands have long since called it quits, this band from New Hampshire is still touring and releasing records. Led by singer/guitarist Joe King, The Queers have been going strong since 1981 and have a discography that seems endless. Most of their material was released on the then-famous Lookout! Records, which also housed bands like Green Day, The Groovie Ghoulies, Rancid, Screeching Weasel, and even Pansy Division (!).
The Queers are impossible to pigeonhole, and perhaps that is the reason the band still exists after countless lineup changes.
After all, it never gets boring. The band tumbles over mid-tempo ballads, aggressive, teasing songs, garage punk hits, love songs, and cheerful punk-poppers, always played with fierce intensity, boyish behavior, and above all, a big wink. The Queers continue to charm. Or maybe they are just “Too Dumb Too Quit!”
Former labelmates of The Queers, PANSY DIVSION, are turning this July 14th into a genuine double bill.
The story of Pansy Division began in the early 90s with this advertisement from founder Jon Ginoli:
“Tired of feeling alienated by the dance and disco music that dominates the gay scene? Aspiring musician looking for queer musicians who are into the Buzzcocks, Ramones and early Beatles.” Not long after, Pansy Division became the founder of queercore and kicked the closet wide open for gay punk rock.
And while THE QUEERS regularly make the big leap across the Atlantic, it has really been quite a while since a PANSY DIVISION performance in the Netherlands. These undisputed heroes of the Queercore punk movement are still known for their energetic pop-punk with a homosexual twist and a healthy dose of self-deprecation. A good starting point for anyone too young to know Pansy Division is the 2008 documentary Pansy Division: Life In A Gay Rock Band.
Fucking legendary, both bands. Really looking forward to it!
