Tom Smith

Editors frontman plays intimate show after sold-out spring tour

Does the name Tom Smith not ring a bell immediately? Just wait until you hear that rusty brown voice. A voice you recognize from a thousand others, which appears in the Top 2000 no less than five times and has blasted across the main stage of your favorite mega-festival countless times. Yes, THAT Tom Smith indeed. The engaging frontman of indie rock powerhouse Editors, who will soon be playing at De Helling – believe it or not.

In December 2025, Smith released his first solo album. A selection of rootsy songs in which he briefly left the bombast of Editors behind to show his sensitive side. Is it folk? Americana? Crooner? 'No idea,' says Smith, 'but I have always had a calling to write sad songs.' And beautiful they were, during that sold-out tour in venues including the main hall of TivoliVredenburg, De Nieuwe Kerk in Groningen, and the Zonnenhuis in Amsterdam.

His show – with, of course, some room for a few good old Editors hits – received rave reviews, and that left everyone involved wanting more. And fortunately, there is more to come. On July 1, Tom Smith returns to Utrecht for a rare, intimate show at De Helling!
