Ásgeir
Wednesday 9 September
In Paradiso - Main Hall
Ásgeir is a singer-songwriter from Iceland (the country, not the supergroup) who gained international recognition with his debut album 'Dýrð í dauðaþögn' from 2012. The album became the best-selling debut ever in Iceland and immediately put him on the map thanks to his restrained folk sound, subtle electronic influences and poetic lyrics. An important feature of his early work is the collaboration with his father, the well-known Icelandic poet Einar Georg Einarsson, who wrote many of the original Icelandic lyrics.
Ásgeir is currently preparing his next album, focusing on writing songs with a fresh approach; he prioritizes melody and personal stories and explores themes such as relationships, aging, hope and nostalgia. His influences range from Leonard Cohen and Daniel Lanois to contemporary artists such as Adrianne Lenker and Dina Ögon.
