Zachtjes gaan de paardenvoetjes is inspired by the picture book with CD of the same name, created by Ageeth de Haan and illustrator Noëlle Smit, who also designed the set for this performance. In 2017, the book with CD was reissued in a new version by publisher Gottmer.
