The Canadian singer-songwriter Abigail Lapell is blessed with a warm, mysterious voice that naturally gives each song a significant intensity - her style within modern folk is aptly called 'prairie noir'. Sometimes she reminds of Natalie Merchant, then again of Gillian Welch or Alela Diane. Lapell's new (seventh) album Shadow Child is released for Mother's Day weekend, on May 8. The theme of the album is also parenthood - Lapell became a mother for the first time in 2024. The first released tracks Hazel and Shadow Child sound enchantingly beautiful!
