The Amsterdam Pop Prize is the band competition for Amsterdam bands of all styles. In its existence, the Pop Prize has become an institution. The competition gives bands the chance to present themselves to the public, media, and music industry, and to play on renowned stages in Amsterdam. Moreover, for many participants, the Pop Prize proved to be a springboard to a successful career. Winners include Miss Starling, SANN!E, Cloud Cafe, Marathon, Ben Forte, WIES, TAPE TOY, and Yori Swart.
During the semi-finals, Amsterdam bands each get the chance to present themselves for 20 minutes. Each preliminary round produces a winner, while the remaining four final spots are distributed by wildcards.
