The story of Deep Forest began in the early 1990s in Northern France with the intention of combining ethnic music with their own electronic and jazz sounds. Their debut album, which bore the band's name, contained the hit 'Sweet Lullaby' and made them famous worldwide overnight. With this album and subsequent releases, they sold a total of 10 million albums. The band was nominated for a Grammy in the category Best World Music Album and later won the award with the album 'Boheme'. Collaborations with Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock, and Aluna Wade, among others, plus compositions for various films and remixes for artists such as Youssou N'Dour, demonstrate their constant productivity. In 2005, Michel Sanchez left the group to start a solo career, after which Eric Mouquet continued under the name Deep Forest, releasing albums such as Deep Africa and Deep India, alongside many other productions. Deep Forest's live set today is versatile: they effortlessly switch between uptempo electronic music and jazz that the audience can dance to, and more ambient and relaxing passages, while always maintaining their signature Deep Forest sound. 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album, and 2025 the 30th anniversary of winning this prestigious prize.
