For REFLEX , drummer and percussionist Frank Rosaly forms a special bond with illustrious players from Amsterdam and Chicago: guitarist Jeff Parker, multi-instrumentalist Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti, and Rob Frye. Together, they seek a shared yet hybrid sound in which avant-jazz, electronics, and traditional Puerto Rican and Cuban musical styles meet.
Rosaly, born and raised in the United States with Puerto Rican family, has been immersing himself in the culture and music of Puerto Rico for years. Without simply copying traditional rhythms and drumming methods, he incorporates them into his own playing and compositions.
