Grass , one of the canonical highlights of the silent film era by directing duo Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack — nowadays best known for their iconic cult film King Kong from the early sound era — is a documentary about the heroic annual migration of the nomadic Bakhtiari tribes in Iran.
It is an epic film about people leading an epic existence. The restless filmmakers strongly identify with the people they follow and transform their journey into some of the most impressive panoramas ever captured in silent cinema.
The film is accompanied live by Peyman Yazdanian, the renowned Iranian pianist and composer known for his film music and contemporary classical compositions. His music — a fusion of Western and Persian influences — has been heard in films by Abbas Kiarostami and Asghar Farhadi, among others.
During this screening, he is accompanied by Adib Rostami on kamancheh and tonbak, which adds an extra rich musical dimension to the film experience.
