Working across composition, improvisation, installation, and performance, Hardi Kurda investigates overlooked, fragmented, and invisible sonic worlds. His work often examines questions of borders, legality, displacement, and the politics of listening, informed by his personal experiences of migration. He is one of the jury members for the Gaudeamus Award 2026. On the evenings that Gaudeamus Festival takes place in TivoliVredenburg this year, we present two of Kurda’s installation pieces: Sounding Carpet and Your Resonance.
Sounding Carpet is an interactive sound installation based on a Kurdish carpet as a found score. Visitors are invited to touch and dig their fingers into the carpet, activating layers of noises and sonic materials embedded within the work. Your Resonance is an interactive sound installation and real-time score based on ECG (electrocardiogram) data. The work translates heart activity into various sound-manipulation processes, creating a direct feedback system in which electrical signals in the body become musical material.
