This day is especially for lovers of classical music with an edge. Bassoons shooting in all directions, compositions with a politically sensitive history, but above all, highly competent musicians.
The concert opens with the bassoon duo Bram van Sambeek and Thomas Dulfer, who perform the Double Concerto for Two Bassoons by Kalevi Aho. This work was written especially for Van Sambeek, with the brief to showcase all facets of the instrument: from virtuosic fireworks to lyrical and serene. Expect a bassoon like you have never heard before.
The duo is followed by Het Klassiek Collectief, which pairs a contemporary work with a classic. The program includes The Chairman Dances by John Adams and Tchaikovsky's sixth symphony, the Pathétique . Both works have a political and personal undercurrent.
