Maarten Voortman, cum laude graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, has been playing piano for as long as he can remember. He has developed into a pianist with his own, recognizable style, influenced by his 'hero' jazz pianist Bud Powell. In 2017, Maarten recorded his first album, titled Epilogue. In April of this year, a new album was released, titled Haas. The music tells the story of a burnout and recovery in twelve expressive compositions, from deep crisis to cautious optimism. According to fellow musician and saxophonist Ben van Gelder, Haas is 'a personal and cinematic musical statement full of colorful textures, inviting musical landscapes created by fantastic interplay'. And for that fantastic interplay, besides Maarten himself on piano, Mo van der Does, alto saxophone, Hendrik Müller, double bass, and Jeroen Batterink, drums, are responsible.
