Madmans Esprit Pitch-black mix of avant-metal, extravagant costumes, and heavy emotions 'Depressive suicidal blackened pop,' is what the Korean band Madmans Esprit calls its own music. This band is clearly not afraid of the dark. In fact, this quintet consistently combines its oppressive avant-garde metal with a layer of intense emotional expression and stories about depression, self-torture, sex, and death. An intense sound that creeps deep under your skin, never to truly leave. Musically, Madmans Esprit also pushes the boundaries. The band alternates between post-metal, djent, and gothic metal, but also experiments with elements from post-rock, folk, and classical music. And the experimentation does not stay within the boundaries of the music. Madmans Esprit draws heavily on inspiration from visual kei: a Japanese movement centered on makeup, extravagant costumes, and a dark aesthetic. Oh yes, and they sing in no fewer than four languages: English, Korean, Japanese, and German. It is clear: you haven't seen a band like this before. But that could change: on January 31, Madmans Esprit is coming to the Netherlands for the first time to make De Helling shake like a leaf for an entire evening.
