Moment III
Mini new wave/postpunkfestival met in Potochkine, Vioflesh en Dear Omen
Do you feel that, that sudden cold breeze? It is time again for Momentum: *the* goth, wave, and post-punk festival of Utrecht, with a line-up full of leading acts from the global dark underground. This time featuring Potochkine, Vioflesh, Silent Runners, Dear Omen, and DARKER. So slip into your boots and plunge into the darkness at Momentum!
POTOCHKINE
For those wondering what Potochkine means: it is the French spelling of the Russian word Potemkin. You know, of the statesman and the famous battleship. And that band name perfectly describes the sound of this duo from the French port town of Toulon: relentless and industrial like a Russian armored cruiser, but with the theatrical allure of a French chanson. An intense mix of EBM, coldwave, and performance art. In short: pure romanticism noir, or: Чистокровный чёрный романтизм. Choose for yourself.
VIOFLESH
When you think of darkwave, you probably don't immediately think of Latin America, yet one of the most promising darkwave acts comes from Santiago de Chile. Vioflesh – a duo consisting of singer Vio and producer Flesh – brings melancholy and anger together on the dance floor. A bittersweet Chilean cocktail of synth-pop, coldwave, and electronica. Music to dance to with tears in your eyes.
SILENT RUNNERS
Don't be fooled by the band name Silent Runners. There is little silence to be found in their energetic shows. These Amsterdammers mix echoing, old-school synthwave with brooding post-punk, driving krautrock, and the necessary bombast. Add explosive live energy to that, and you understand why they have been a fixture of the Dutch dark underground scene for ten years.
DEAR OMEN
Speaking of the Dutch dark underground: Dear Omen is currently causing an earthquake there. With their haunted-house synths, echoing vocals, chokers, stark white makeup, and flickering candles, these Amsterdam vampires are the goth revelation of the moment. You’ve known for a long time, of course, that goth wasn't dead – but with shows at Into The Great Wide Open and ESNS, Dear Omen is bringing the genre back above ground. They continue that triumphant march at Momentum, where they will also enlist you into their army of fans.
DARKER
And the new wave promise is already ready. These Tilburgers make second-generation new wave in the vein of White Lies, Editors, and Ist Ist, but just a little bit, eh, darker. Armed with catchy choruses and four LED screens full of breathtaking visuals, Darker is coming to hypnotize us. So be on time!
