In the song cycle They Have Waited Long Enough, the Ragazze Quartet, soprano Katharine Dain, and a solo instrument, once again tell the stories of historical and mythological women. To date, the song cycle has had three editions, and for each edition, three female composers composed a work for soprano, string quartet, and a solo instrument, about a woman from mythology or history. They give a voice to all these women who are now—finally—allowed to tell their story.
Each song combines soprano and string quartet with a solo instrument chosen by the composer that reflects the character of the woman whose story is being told. For instance, Saskia Venegas chose the txalaparta, a Basque percussion instrument that must be played by two musicians.
