Sophie Hutchings
Become the Sky

Australian pianist and composer Sophie Hutchings's love for the piano began in secret. As a child, she isolated herself, with only the family piano for company. Quietly, she developed the repetitive, dreamy style that would later become her trademark. Initially, she was reticent about her music and the idea of performing live in public. It wasn't until the release of her debut album, Becalmed, that Sophie stepped into the public arena.

Since then, she has been nominated twice for the Australian Music Prize, received critical acclaim from the likes of MOJO and The Guardian , was named a top five live instrumentalist of the year at the National Live Music Awards, and has released eight studio albums to critical acclaim. Scattered On The Wind marks her debut on the Mercury KX label.

In 2025, she released her latest album, Become the Sky , featuring meditative, piano-driven pieces exploring themes of change, journey, and the intense feeling of coming home.

An avid surfer and outdoor enthusiast, she draws inspiration from the natural beauty and vast landscapes of her native Australia. Her compositions are disarming, elegant, romantic, and epic. Her pieces are characterized by a refined vulnerability and an intimate sound. Sophie has collaborated with artists such as Ólafur Arnalds, Hauschka, Federico Albanese, and Lambert.
