As an artist, you are on the road a lot. It is a life of its own. You don't really have a home, and when you arrive there—often in the middle of the night—you experience it as an empty, strange place. 'The highway is my home,' they sing in America, and there is some truth to that. Over the years, you become at home in your car, on the highways, in the theaters, the cafes, the hotels, and at the gas stations. It is a rootless, but—if you can handle it—generally pleasant way of life, which also has a spiritual impact: you remain in motion and sensitive to change and adventure. *Op Drift* by Alex Roeka is inspired by thirty years of being on the road.
