Annabel Schouten develops acoustic experiences, using listening as the main tool to awaken other senses. The audience experiences Schouten's work by placing themselves in the sound artworks, allowing the sounds to touch the ears. Once on board, you move through the landscape as a visitor to take in the composition. In recent years, she has created several performances that were a solo experience for the audience, and now the process of creation itself is becoming increasingly important to her. In the run-up to Water Between Us, Schouten went out with her project the Meemaker, a mobile studio. With the Meemaker, Schouten brings her artistic process to the public space. While building new instruments in a public park, she allows passersby to interact with her and her work, contribute, and provide input. At the Gaudeamus Festival, she invites the audience to step into her new work Water Between Us, which was created on location. The residency and research of Annabel Schouten were supported by the Province of Utrecht.
