Philosophy for Life with Marli Huijer Philosophy for Life is on a mission. A mission toward wisdom that not only sounds good, but that you can actually use in your own life. That is why we are diving into 2,500 years of philosophy and translating the ideas of great thinkers into an interactive, accessible, and lively evening. Not a lecture, but an experience. One where you will hopefully go home with more questions than you came in with. On September 30, we will be in conversation with Marli Huijer, former Thinker of the Netherlands, about The Other. Who is that other person, actually? And perhaps even more interesting: how does someone become the other person? Drawing on the ideas of thinker Michel Foucault, Marli shows how power structures determine who belongs and who is excluded. Think of refugees, migrants, Muslims, and Jews, but ultimately the conversation is just as much about ourselves. What stories do we tell about the other? And what does that actually say about us? But don't expect an evening where you simply sit back and relax. We will engage in conversation with each other and with the audience, test your philosophical knowledge in a quiz, share beer-mat wisdom, and step outside our Plato. Because philosophy only truly comes alive when you explore it together, question it, and occasionally just laugh at yourself. In short: an evening full of sharp questions, surprising insights, and lots of fun.
