Rock, Metal, Experimental

An evening full of heavy, experimental, and liberating music. Sound that is as intense as it is healing—sounds for the times we live in.

Thistle Sifter is the ambient post-rock project of English musician Pete Barnes. With dreamy guitars, atmospheric synths, and layered structures, he creates instrumental music that resonates deeply emotionally. His second album, Circles (2024), was born from a period of recovery following a serious cycling accident and draws inspiration from themes of health, acceptance, and letting go of the past. Brexit, Covid, and physical limitations created a sense of isolation, which Barnes transformed into an intense, almost cinematic listening experience. Live, Thistle Sifter becomes an immersive audiovisual journey, with performances at AFAS Live (with Sigur Rós), Le Guess Who?, and Roadburn, among others.

Amsterdam's Rosa Canina pushes the boundaries of heavy, experimental rock. Their latest release, "Waiting List" (May 2025), is an eight-track journey through mental shadowlands. Pounding drums, menacing synths, and razor-sharp guitars bring to life stories of frustration, stasis, and fear—from the title track about the endless wait for therapy to the oppressive limbo 2.0 and the hyper-vigilant lockpicker. Recorded at Studio Moskou in Utrecht and released on CD, cassette, and digital formats, this is an uncompromisingly honest album that effortlessly blends rawness and atmosphere.

A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers: a band that blends sludge, post- and doom metal into long, menacing compositions with room for improvisation. Inspired by global tensions, climate crisis, and personal struggles, they draw influences from heavy acts like OM and Sumac, as well as jazz and Indian classical music. Their songs balance between suffocating heaviness and unexpected moments of beauty, with lyrics that reflect on death, religion, and political philosophy. The result is an intense musical experience that offers both a warning and a glimmer of hope.
