Following four standalone EPs in 2018, the Montreal-based singer-songwriter was invited by Weyes Blood and Connan Mockasin to join them on tour and collaborated with rapper Jpegmafia, who casually referred to her as the “Young Thug of indie rock”. Her folk album ‘Someone New’ (2020) received high praise from Pitchfork and The Line of Best Fit; its follow-up, ‘Goodnight Summerland’ (2023), cemented her reputation as one of the most versatile voices on the Canadian indie scene. In between, she appeared on the Hildegard project, her collaboration with producer Ouri.
Now comes the follow-up: on 22 January 2027, ‘Eternity Shrugs’ will be released, her third solo album, recorded in rural Quebec and produced alongside her regular bandmates Francis Ledoux and Alexandre Larin. Eleven intimate songs about the desire to be seen. With piano, organ, viola and woodwinds that patiently weave around Deland’s voice. The title track ‘Where I Stand’ sums it up: eternity calls and hangs up again. Following the recent single ‘How Do You Like Me Now’, she’ll be touring venues across North America this autumn, with Europe on the agenda afterwards.
