What happens when you cross the grit of grunge with the shine of pop? You get Hiqpy: a four-member band that steps onto the stage in a quirky, playful, and energetic manner, armed with echoing vocals and fuzzy guitars. It's not often that a band has nothing on Spotify, yet journalists sing along with every word of their songs. This happened with Hiqpy. Their live shows quickly drew attention, from the Popronde to a quarter-hour at Noorderslag, and in 2024 they won the Zonneprijs. In early 2025, their first single 'Something' finally appeared, followed by 'Red Flag Magician' and 'Girl in Red', produced by Danton Supple (Coldplay, Elbow). In early 2026, they released their debut album, and exactly one day after the Zonneprijsfinale of 2026, they are set to perform in the Main Hall of Paradiso: a good indicator of how far they've come.
