Regarded as ‘one of the most prominent ensembles in the United States practicing truly experimental music’ (I Care If You Listen), TAK is a mixed quintet dedicated to new works by young and adventurous composers. At Gaudeamus Festival they play new music by Jessie Cox, one of the jury members for the Gaudeamus Award 2026.
In his piece Censored Sounds: Structural Erasure, Cox reflects on the way aggressors influence the reporting of their actions, thereby attempting to undermine and disclaim the memories of victims and witnesses. Just as so many of the images of the Holocaust we have today were created by the Nazis themselves, and just as, in the United States, the memory of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter was very quickly suppressed and distorted.
