The beauty of a jazz concert is that you never quite know what is going to happen before it starts. For instance, American bassist Joe Sanders probably never suspected that the audience would keep singing along to the melody of an improvised solo. That magical moment became the kickoff for the album Parallels, on which contradictions are allowed to coexist: beautiful melodies and experimental sounds, a dark atmosphere followed by a cheerful tone.
Sanders has gathered greats from the American jazz world around him: saxophonists Seamus Blake (tenor) and Logan Richardson (alto). Sometimes they give each other beautiful space, and then again they propel the other to great heights. The quartet is complemented by drummer Gregory Hutchinson. They have each built an impressive career as bandleaders. Sanders himself has been a sought-after musician for years and has played with Gerald Clayton, Kendrick Scott, and Ben Wendel, among others.
