It's been four years since Marie Van Uytvanck and Amber Piddington first shared a stage together, during the preliminary rounds of Sound Track in 2019. What began as a stopgap measure (the guitarist Marie was supposed to compete with had canceled due to illness) proved so successful that they decided to continue together as Kids With Buns, named after the Gorillaz song "Kids with Guns." Their melancholic bedroom pop songs about their inner lives quickly found an audience. The first singles, "1712" and "Bad Grades," were well received. In August 2020, they reached the semi-finals of Humo's Rock Rally, and in January 2021, they won Studio Brussel's "De Nieuwe Lichting." At the same time, they remained true to themselves. Kids With Buns does what it does best: intimate indie rock, driven by Amber's melodic guitars and Marie's deep voice. The result: sad bangers you can dance to during a mental breakdown in the bathroom.
