The music of Korean indie band Leenalchi: even Koreans can't always tell you exactly what the songs are about. Something with the liver of a rabbit, something with a water turtle. The lyrics are derived from pansori, a traditional form of musical storytelling often compared to opera. These songs, rooted in shamanism and developed during the Joseon dynasty (17th century), tell epic stories about love, virtue, sorrow, and dragon kings. Think of a musical version of Hamlet, but on a juicy, slightly psychedelic bassline: that is Leenalchi.
