In the REFLEX series from BIMHUIS Productions, we invite creators to reflect on the world and society. In the new edition, M ALBERTO takes over BIMHUIS for HIGH FLYING PARK, a sanctuary where all kinds of art forms converge, with music and poetry at its core.
On stage, M takes new poems and compositions as a starting point for the three voices of Shara Lunon, Claron McFadden, and themselves, interplaying with percussion, saxophone, and electronics. This creates a patchwork of rap, opera, minimal music , chamber music, electronics, and improvisation, inspired by the history and spirit of Curaçao, New York counterculture, and Amsterdam squatters, among other things.
M ALBERTO was born in Curaçao, currently lives in Amsterdam, and is active on both sides of the ocean as a poet, composer, arranger, saxophonist, and creator of documentary theater and essay performances. These are based on research into underexposed stories from around the world. HIGH FLYING PARK is named after a project by creative Curaçaoan youth fifty years ago. Due to a lack of communal spaces, they erected colorful makeshift structures on vacant lots. These "High Flying Parks" are long gone, but they still capture the imagination.
M ALBERTO spoken word/vocals/modular synthesizer/saxophone, Shara Lunon vocals/electronics, Claron McFadden vocals, Yung-Tuan Ku vibraphone/percussion
