Marieke Franssen & Ruud Roelofsen – Schimmenwereld

Theater Kikker21:1529,00

Schimmenwereld, a piece by Ruud Roelofsen for the adventurous flautist Marieke Franssen, explores the spaces from the Dream Book of the early 20th-century writer and psychiatrist Frederik van Eeden. In this book, Van Eeden meticulously recorded his dreams for years, including numerous clues about the spaces he dreamt of: from bedroom to church hall. In Schimmenwereld, this fact serves as the catalyst for a speculative quest into the acoustics of dreams. This immersive performance is a spatial experience in which temporal resolution, narrative, and sounds of sleep-related physiological phenomena such as hypnagogic jerks (waking up with a start) and ‘exploding head syndrome,’ among others, are interwoven.
