We all need some space from time to time – but what that space is and how we define it is different for everyone. In new compositions, eight young composers reflect on the premise Needed Space. From reflections on a sense of ‘home’ to having space for the other, from the place left for nature in a human-dominated world to an abstract musical space where different cultures come together: during this concert, you will hear and feel just how much space the concept of ‘space’ can actually encompass.
After selection rounds at various locations in the Netherlands, eight young composers aged between 12 and 21 were selected from 34 to follow a special composition trajectory: Adrián López Gómez, Karel Boits, Lize Bastiaens, Menno de Boer, Anieke Sierksma, Barry Krom, Elewout Acke, Sasha Groep. During the summer months, composer Remy Alexander guides the youngest generation of composers in the challenge of translating the theme into music for the unique combination of voice, violin, and guitar. The new compositions are performed by Sterre Konijn, Merel Vercammen, and Fernando Cordas.
